hi. I’m Erin.

I’m a user experience, data analysis, and artificial intelligence professional with a particular gift for unraveling complex systems.

Need someone to ask all the right questions and get your product streamlined, graceful, and intuitive? You’ve come to the right place.

(Also, sorry – this site is very new and in-progress. But at least it can host some links to my work!)

my specialties

user experience design

I make brutally intuitive apps. Information architecture is my native language.

Unfortunately a lot of my recent work is proprietary, but I do have a portfolio of a variety of work from my time at O’Reilly Auto Parts:

  • Checkout Redesign – Design & usability testing in an e-commerce setting

  • Hotspots Diagrams – A pretty complex ask, as the diagrams we had from the catalog department could not be modified, but having a diagram of a system can be a game-changer for people buying parts for an overhaul. So I had to figure out how to shoe-horn that functionality into the website as gracefully as possible.

  • Personas – Created the company’s first personas

  • Pilot Same Day Documentation – I was part of our Same Day Delivery pilot, where I turned business requirements and physical shipping limitations into a usable and intuitive end user experience.

  • UX Process, Design Deliverables – I was the first full-fledged UX Designer hired by O’Reilly. I brought some expectations to our new team and business partners, including moving from Adobe Photoshop for mockups to Adobe XD, resulting in higher-fidelity, interactive prototypes with easier developer handoff. This is a super simplified process, as the company had never interfaced with UX before.

  • Curated Shipping Method Logic – We had this issue where delivery options would display to a customer – for example, one method was delivered tomorrow for free, another was delivered in 5 days and cost $10. I wrote the logic for developers to show only useful options for end users.

Data anaLysis & Artificial intelligence

complex systems

There’s nothing I love more than figuring out how to streamline a system with a million moving parts & limitations.

research & metrics

I love data-driven decision making. I can help guide business decisions, illustrate ROI, and more.

Designops & devops

Work that enables the work. That’s what I do at Edward Jones now! Design systems are my forte – I’ve spent my last six years at Fortune 500 companies creating and co-creating components in design systems. But I do a lot of operational things too, like managing licenses, hosting open office hours, and collaborating with a variety of different areas.

Erin, the Professional

I started out a painting student. Strange journey, I know. But it taught me how to really perceive – we should paint what we see, not what we think we see. And it taught me how to thoughtfully navigate critiques and give meaningful, effective feedback.

UX was the perfect bridge for me. It married my visual background with my lifelong loves of technology, optimization, and human behavior. I started out in startups, sometimes working for nothing. I had a consistent stream of contracts for a few years. Then I broke into my first Fortune 500 Corporate gig in 2019 and have been happily swimming in that pool ever since.

As the years went on, I focused my gaze on the more and more technical. Python has always been my first and greatest love. Then I got a Masters Degree in Data Analysis. And now, I’m the single journey owner of design system Metrics & Measures at Edward Jones.

And as part of my goal of becoming more technical and versatile, I’m now working on my B.S. in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. Because why not. When I say I live that constant improvement life, I mean it.

Erin, the person

I have a variety of colorful hobbies, including traveling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, reading non-fiction books, running, lifting weights, and flying small planes. Both personally and professionally, I like some variety!
